Beta Sitosterol Supplements - Beta Sitosterol Benefits
Studies indicate that beta-sitosterol supplements can lower cholesterol levels, reduce the risk of colon cancer, and relieve symptoms of benign prostatic hypertrophy
Helps Maintain Healthy Cholesterol Levels & Reduce Symptoms of Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy (BPH)
Beta-sitosterol is a phytosterol that comes from plants and has a similar structure to cholesterol. The importance of this is that because of the similar structure, beta sitosterol competes with cholesterol absorption. Phytosterols are found in most plants and thus in foods such as rice bran, wheat germ, corn oils and soybeans. Our pure Beta-sitosterol supplement is made in America so you can be sure you are getting only pure, high quality Beta Sitosterol.
Beta Sitosterol Research Studies
Several studies have proven the benefits of beta sitosterol on prostate
health. The Journal of the American Medical Association published a
review of 31 years worth of studies and the evidence suggested that
beta sitosterol and saw palmetto extracts "improves urologic symptoms
and flow measures."
Studies indicate that beta-sitosterol can lower cholesterol levels, reduce the risk of colon cancer, and relieve symptoms of benign prostatic hypertrophy, a swelling of the prostate that causes men to frequently wake up in the night to urinate and have trouble urinating. Research supports the fact that phytosterols, including beta-sitosterol, can reduce cholesterol levels. Beta sitosterol seems to reduce cholesterol absorption in the intestine by about 50% and may have additive effects with herbs and supplements that also lower cholesterol levels. Some of these supplements include chromium, flaxseed, garlic, gaur gum, niacin and oat bran. It is important to note that one study found no evidence that phytosterols reduce the risk of cancer.
Beta Sitosterol Side-Effects
Few problems have been reported among men taking beta-sitosterol for BPH. Some men may have problems with their stomach and digestion. These are minor symptoms that do not cause any long term problems.
Beta Sitosterol and BPH
It is believed that the way beta sitosterol helps with BPH is that it inhibits the action of the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase, which converts testosterone into DHT. DHT is one of the main causative factors to BPH or benign prostatic hypertrophy. It has been found that the prostate of an older man has up to 4 times higher DHT concentration than that of a younger man.
