I often tell my patients that the human body is an intricate machine that is intelligently designed. It just needs all systems to work in harmony. All of which are modulated by a good nerve supply! You are what you eat… It may sound cliché but it’s 100% the truth. We must supply our body with proper nutrition for it to work correctly. Health is a complete state of physical, chemical and emotional well being and not merely the absence of signs and symptoms of disease. Just because I’m not symptomatic doesn’t mean I’m healthy.
Ever hear that Omega 3 Fatty Acids are good for you? Yes…not all fat is bad. Well not only are Omega 3’s good for you, they’re essential!!! Meaning, your body can not produce or create them on its own. This means that they have to be naturally acquired and metabolized in its purest form. Specifically, long chain Omega 3 fatty acids such as DHA, EPA and Oleic Acid are the best versions! DHA is needed in fatty areas of the body that require speed, like the brain, heart and eyes, and may be the better choice for people with neurological challenges. EPA circulates to support a healthy immune response, and may be the better choice for people with aches, pains and swelling. Oleic acid is excellent for cardiovascular health with its ability to potentially reduce bad cholesterol and increase good cholesterol in your body. Did I mention fatty acids may also decrease inflammation as an added benefit? Inflammation opens the door for free radicals in the body. This can be linked to chronic disease.
So in a world that is designed for sympathetic overload and convenience, are we really getting the nutrition that we need to function? For the average person, the answer to that question is unfortunately no. We have made it more convenient to shop for nutritionally deficient foods, and not to mention food cooked full of preservatives and ingredients that you need a professional to pronounce. How is this healthy?
So add foods high in Omega-3 such as fish, vegetable oils, nuts (especially walnuts), flax seeds, flaxseed oil, and leafy vegetables to your plate. Unless your diet is intricately balanced and you consistently eat these food groups, you’re most likely lacking Omega 3’s. Remember in biology class that the smallest living thing is a cell? The latest research shows that the average human body is made of upwards of 37 Trillion Cells. Oh! And did I mention that Omega 3’s are an intricate part of the membranes that line and hold these cells together? Bad membranes = less than optimal cells. If you’re looking for an easy way to introduce better function in your body consider Nordic Naturals Arctic Omega Lemon and Earth Turns Omega 3 supplements. Both of these products are heavy metal free and contain bioavailable Omega 3s that do not smell or taste like fish, and nurture proper immune, brain, heart and inflammatory health. Remember, making healthy choices can help you live life to the fullest.
