How to Naturally Prevent Bug Bites

There Are Several Natural Ways to Avoid Insects From Biting You

Dress the Part

Wear loose fitting, light colored clothing and avoid floral patterns. Mosquitos are attracted to dark colors, and bees (obviously) are attracted to anything that looks like a flower. These pests can easily get spraying natural insect repellentto your skin through tight clothes so protect yourself and be comfortable at the same time!

Avoid Still Waters

If you have a pond or lake near your home, be conscientious when outside. Mosquitos, bees and other bugs love standing water. If you have a bird bath, make sure to place it away from walking paths, doors, or other high foot traffic areas and change the water in it everyday. Be sure to empty water from garbage cans, pool covers, and outside toys that may collect rainwater, as well.

Grow a Garden

Certain plants have the innate ability to deflect insects. Basil, catnip, lemon balm or lemongrass, peppermint, rose geraniums, and rosemary are great at keeping mosquitos away. You can put them in the ground and have a beautiful, fragrant garden or put them in pots and line a sidewalk, patio or pool area. Either way, by beautifying your yard with these plants you’ll help keep the mosquitos away – and that’s a truly beautiful thing.

Essential Oils

If you know you’re going to be outside for a long period of time try rubbing yourself down in some essential oils that mosquitos really seem to dislike. Cinnamon, citronella, and thyme are the ones that are particularly toxic to these little buggers. If you just aren’t comfortable with saturating yourself and your loved ones in DEET, oils are a safe and easy alternative.
