Mushroom Burger

Vegetarian Recipe – Serves 4

Burgers are a big part of American culture, and the savory juicy standard that we have come to expect at cookouts, tailgating parties and family gatherings. But, instead of the traditional ground beef Mushroom Veggie Burger with Sproutsexcursion, here is an option to explore intense, hearty flavor and skipping the meat for this course.

Mushroom Burger Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of chopped white button mushrooms
  • 1 cup of chopped shitake mushrooms
  • 1 cup of chopped portabella mushrooms
  • 2 eggs (beaten)
  • ½ of a medium onion, chopped
  • 1 cup of chopped celery
  • 1 cup of chopped parsley
  • 2 tbsp of chopped fresh sage
  • 1 cup of brown rice cooked in vegetable broth
  • 2 tbsp of chia seeds
  • 1 tsp of ginger powder
  • 1 tsp of garlic powder
  • 1 tsp of smoked paprika
  • 4 tbsp of tamari
  • ½ tsp of red pepper flakes
  • 6 tbsp of grape seed oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste


Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine all ingredients in a large bowl (reserving 4 tbsp of grape seed oil for cooking), and allow the mixture to sit refrigerated for 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the mixture to come together. Form 4 patties with the mixture and sauté on medium heat in grape seed oil, browning on both sides, then place the mushroom patties in the oven to cook through for another 20 minutes. Serve on hamburger rolls with traditional garnish such as cheese (goat cheese goes very well with the mushrooms), lettuce, tomatoes and sprouts or serve with a garden salad.
