It is believed that 60% of Alzheimer's patients experience a decrease in visual capacity and in some cases the patient is not able to distinguish the light colored food/drink from the actual plate/cup. It is believed that the inability to distinguish the food from the plate, may contribute to the 40% of Alzheimer's patients that experience significant weight loss. Researchers noted that patients who used tableware that contrasts from their food/drink increased their food intake by 14% and liquid intake by 84%
The human eye has more receptors in the retina to see red than any other color, so Redware created their tableware line with this in mind. The Basic Set includes a scooper dish with a non-skid base, drinking cup, built-up fork and spoon for easier gripping.
