DGL-EX from Dee Cee Labs is the answer. Stress and other factors put pressure on our digestive system. When our digestive system is under attack, ulcers develop. One popular solution is to take a Licorice Root Extract supplement (Glycyrrhiza glabra) because it is known for its ulcer-relieving properties. Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice (DGL) delivers the same benefits, minus adverse consequences on the adrenal gland system and without causing spikes in blood pressure.
AOR is Canada's Advanced Orthomolecular Research Group. They explained that peptic ulcers were traditionally treated with antacids and/or medication that would prevent secretions of acid. However, when a persistent bacteria called Heliobacter pylori was discovered to be the main culprit behind numerous peptic ulcer cases, researchers decided to introduce more powerful antibiotics. While they do relieve the symptoms of peptic ulcers, these antibiotics have their disadvantages: they are costly, can potentially induce addiction, interfere with regular digestive functions, and change how the cells in the digestive tract perform their work.
Examples of what scientists call "histamine receptor antagonists" are Zantac (Ranitidine) and Tagamet (Cimetidine). They prevent histamine from acting on acids secreted by the gut. Histamine also stimulates stomach acid through the gastric cells. The action of blocking means levels of stomach acid are significantly curtailed. But the nagging question is: are these drugs safe and effective? Zantac, Tagamet, and other H2 receptor antagonists provide relief. Curiously, however, people who take them tend to have recurring ulcers. These drugs also have side effects. Given that H2-receptor antagonists prohibit an important digestive function, there is obviously interference. When this interference becomes pronounced, people are prone to experiencing indigestion, vomiting, constipation and loose bowel movement.
Nutritional deficiencies also result from erratic digestion. Prescription drugs have been known to cause hair loss, allergies, depression, osteoporosis, enlarged breasts in men, troubled sleep, vertigo and even impotence. And they cost an arm and a leg: for a month's supply of Zantac or Tagamet, you could spend between $40.00 and $60.00.
The belief is that it is not a question of blocking a particular action. The idea is to treat the condition, not just the symptoms. Besides, the over-secretion of acid is not the reason why many people suffer ulcers. In most cases, the cause is linked to a disrupted intestinal wall - the lining has been damaged. Zantac and Tagamet cure the symptoms; they do not treat the underlying cause. DGL does! The way a DGL supplement works is that instead of preventing acid secretions, the licorice actually reinforces the mechanisms that help prevent ulcers. DGL supplements contains flavonoids that attack H. pylori.
This natural digestive aid supplement strengthens the protective role - quantitatively and qualitatively - of the intestinal lining. It also extends the life of intestinal cells and stimulates the flow of blood to the intestinal tract. Studies prove that DHL supplements are an effective treatment for ulcers. In one study, 33 gastric ulcer sufferers were given DGL and a placebo, and were monitored for 30 days. At the end of the study, the group who took DGL showed that their ulcer decreased by 78%, while those who took a placebo, by 34%. Of those who took DGL, 44% were completely healed compared to only 6% of those who took a placebo. Detailed comparisons of individual patients revealed that with respect to short term cure and maintenance treatment for peptic ulcers, the effectiveness rate of a natural DGL supplement was higher than Tagamet or Zantac. These drugs also generated side effects whereas DGL supplementation was found to be very safe and effective, not to mention its much lower price.
