Role of Omega 3 Fatty Acids in Immune System

How Does Omega 3 Support Health?

omegaSince the function of the immune system is intricately linked with both neurological and hormonal signaling as well as inflammation, the importance of EPA and DHA Omega 3, as found in our ‘Super Omega 3’, has been shown by scientific research to be necessary for healthy immune function and cancer prevention. The research that EPA and DHA are essential for proper nerve signaling, hormonal production and regulation, immune function, and the regulation of inflammation is irrefutable.

Other probable physiological connections between EPA and DHA insufficiency and cancer are the link between membrane fluidity, insulin resistance, and sex hormone binding globulins which are required to reduce the amount of free circulating hormones. There is a direct correlation with an increase in free unbound circulating hormones to an increase risk of cancer. It has been shown that a shortage of EPA and DHA is associated with cell membrane rigidity which can cause insulin resistance.

Among other problems, insulin resistance causes a decrease in sex hormone binding globulin and an increase in circulating insulin both of nordic-naturals-13120-1202_4which have been linked to a significant increased cancer risk. It is also significant that an increase in the ratio of Omega 6 to Omega 3 fatty acids has been shown to increase the risk of cancer. Unfortunately, the average American diet is very high in Omega 6 fatty acids and dangerously deficient in Omega 3 essential fatty acids.

Supplementing with EPA and DHA from fish oil like ‘Super Omega 3’ or our ‘Salmon Oil’ may significantly reduce the risk of breast, colon, and prostate cancer and to decrease the rate of tumor growth in patients who have already developed cancer.
