Lose weight without dieting. This may seem like it is impossible, but with the help of omega 3s it may be possible. Everybody needs omega 3 supplements, and it seems like every week there is a new study that finds out a new benefit of omega 3 fatty acid consumption. A recent study conducted at the University of South Australia found that omega 3 fatty acids can help people, especially women, to lose weight without dieting.

Lose weight without dietingThe study done at the University of South Australia tested 75 people who were overweight or obese, and had the risk factors for heart disease, like high cholesterol and blood pressure levels. Half of this group was given omega3 fatty acids, while the other half was given sunflower oil, which contains no omega 3 fatty acids. These two groups were then split into those who were given an exercise regiment and one that did not, so the groups were constructed as follows:

  • One Group Received no Omega 3s or Exercise
  • One Group Received Omega 3s, but no Exercise
  • One Group Exercised, but Didn’t Get Omega 3s
  • One Group Received both Omega 3s and Exercise

In three weeks the group who exercised and consumed omega 3 fatty acids lost on average 4.5 pounds, which was better than the other groups. They also experienced a reduction in body fat percentage, and women got the most benefits out of both exercise and omega 3 fatty acid consumption. Scientists were most impressed by the fact that none of the overweight subjects changed their diet, and the omega 3s were believed to help with weight loss by providing the muscles with plenty of blood during exercise. The omega 3s also activated enzymes that the body uses to bring fat from storage to where it can be used for energy. This study just adds to the lengthy list of why everybody should consume omega 3 fatty acids, and this is especially true if you’re trying to lose weight.
