Natural Folic Acid Supplement - Vitamin B9

Dee Cee Labs Folic acid supplement, is also known as Vitamin B9. Folic acid, also called folate, is important for the production and maintenance of new cells. This is especially necessary during both pregnancy and infancy when cell growth is extremely rapid. If deficient, both adults and children need a folic acid supplement to make normal red blood cells and to prevent anemia.

Folic Acid Deficiency

Taking folic acid supplements in early pregnancy can prevent birth defects, including problems with the spine (neural tube defects) and brain. Women who become pregnant and don't consume enough folate are also more likely to have babies who have low birth weight or are premature. A deficiency of folic acid may lead to anemia (weak blood). Your health care professional may treat this by prescribing folic acid supplements for you.

Some conditions may increase your need for folic acid. These include:
  • Alcoholism
  • Anemia,
  • Hemolytic Diarrhea (continuing),
  • Fever (prolonged)
  • Hemodialysis
  • Illness (prolonged)
  • Intestinal diseases
  • Liver disease
  • Stress (continuing)
  • Surgical removal of stomach.

Benefits of Folic Acid

Folic acid supplements have a myriad of benefits. They are especially important to women who want to conceive. Women who are planning to get pregnant should take healthy doses of folic acid in order to prevent spina bifida in their unborn children. Not only that, the Journal of the American Medical Association released findings of women benefiting from daily doses of a folic acid supplement. The study revealed that women who took 1000 micrograms of folic acid (Vitamin B9) every day were less likely to suffer from high blood pressure compared to women who do not take folic acid daily. It further explained that folic acid allows blood vessels to become relaxed which results to lower blood pressure. Aside from this, folic acid also helps in reducing homocysteine levels. High homocysteine levels are pinpointed to cause various cardiovascular diseases.

Vitamin B9 significantly contributes to produce healthy red blood cells, synthesize DNA, and metabolize protein. Experts recommend that women take about 800 to 1000 mcg of a folic acid supplement every day. This should be supplemented with a B complex vitamin to ensure optimum effects. You can also increase folic acid intake by eating more green leafy vegetables, whole grains, and citrus fruits.

Folic Acid and Gray hair
Along with Vt B Complex this extra Folic acid has turned most of my husband's gray hair back to his normal dark brown. It has also kept my hair its natural color, otherwise I would have totally white hair by now'
