Badger Sunscreen - A Natural Physical Barrier

The Environmental Working Group's Safe Cosmetics Database reveals that Badger Sunscreen is one of the world's most effective and safest sunscreens. Recently, Badger was rated #1 out of 910 easily available products. We think that's great, and that's why we use Badger Sunscreen.

What is the difference between 'Chemical' and 'Physical Barrier' Sunscreens?

Physical Barrier Sunscreens, such as Badger's, create a protective film on the top of the skin's surface that reflects the harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun before it can reach living tissue. The two most common ingredients in physical barrier type sunblocks are zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. Badger chose to use zinc oxide because it was determined that it was the safest & most effective choice, and it has been used effectively and safely for hundreds of years.

Ultraviolet light is composed of three wavelength bands: UVA, UVB and UVC. Only UVA and UVB can reach the earth's surface. The good news is that Badger Sunscreen can block both the UVA and UVB rays.

Badger SPF Chart

Since this amazing natural sunblock is in the spectrum of protection that can block UVC light it wouldn't be a bad idea for pilots and astronauts to use it, since they are exposed to harmful UVC rays.

Chemical sunscreens work, by absorbing UV rays before they can do any damage. The problem is, they contain harmful chemical ingredients that can protect against UVA or UVB, but not both. The biggest danger is that chemical sunscreens are absorbed into the skin, they will more likely cause irritation to your skin and cause other problems.

Why Badger Sunscreen is so Powerful:

  • Stays on the skin (even when you swim or sweat)
  • Will not run
  • Won't drip into your eyes
  • Will allow your skin to breathe
  • Strong and effective- will protect your skin
  • Mild enough not to irritate most skin

Why Use Zinc Oxide Sunblock?

Many people might wonder why Badger chose to use zinc oxide in their sunblock. The main reason is that it acts as a physical barrier that will actually reflect the damaging UVA rays and UVB rays before they can reach the living tissues of your skin. This is a mineral sunblock and is safer and more effective to use than traditional chemical sunblocks which have been shown to interfere with the body's endocrine (hormone) system.

As you may know, the best way to protect yourself from the sun is to wear a hat or stay in the shade. But, since that's no fun and not always practical, you should protect your family's skin with what we think is the best mineral based natural sunscreen (also known as natural sunblock) on the market.

A bit disappointed
I've been searching for an all-natural sunscreen that isn't very expensive, and I was hoping this would be the one, since I order other items from Earth Turns, as well. I actually ordered a sample size from somewhere else (why doesn't ET offer sample sizes?), and was not very happy with it. I do not like the smell; the unscented is much better. It does leave you a bit white, especially on your face. It was better on my arms, but you could still detect some whiteness. Also, I found that it rubs off very easily right after application, so you have to be careful. I also found that it leaves a residue that makes your arms kind of sticky. I used it recently while gardening, and dirt and plant debris got stuck all over my arm, and didn't brush away easily. I also got bugs stuck on my arm, because they don't brush away easily either, and some get killed in the attempt. Dirt and dead bug bodies stuck on my arm are not desirable. I will have to go with the expensive one I found, unfortunately.

Great product, though smells a little
I found the sunscreen its quite thick and has like bubbles in it. First I would apply maybe too much of it, and end up very white. But later I learned to apply only a little and extend it through the body. I does feel a little greasy and smells little funny too, not bad but it has a particular smell. The greasy part I'm working it out applying less of the product and rubbing it well.
I love knowing that is great for my skin since it has organic mineral ingredients, I do recommend it!

Works Great!
Since I'm an avid jogger, I am always looking for sunscreens that are "waterproof and sweatproof" (...if these exist at all...) and had recently become disillusioned with a Banana Boat sunscreen that I'd been using. Half way through my runs, I could feel (and see the white drops of) the Banana Boat brand sunscreen dripping down my arms and legs. So, when my sister mentioned that I might be interested in this Badger brand sunscreen, I ordered it immediately. I am 100% pleased with this product. I've been using it for a couple of weeks now and it works fantastic (no more dripping with white drops!)! A quick word of caution: It's very thick and you have to work it in very well into your skin to get rid of the white residue, but I don't really mind this too much. I am so satisfied with this brand that I am going to try the Badger Face Stick next!
