In 1963, resveratrol was discovered as part of Asian folk medicine but it was in 1992 that it was discovered also in red wine. Given its beneficial effects, people started promoting daily drinking of red wine with dinner, suggesting that a four-ounce glass was the ideal daily amount. The truth is, you can't get enough resveratrol from red wine and a resveratrol supplement is the best form.

Resveratrol: a natural Antibiotic

Many opinions have sprung up regarding the health benefits of resveratrol, but one fact that is firmly established is that it possesses antioxidant qualities. The Oxford Journal and the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology are two examples of publications that have released positive reports about resveratrol. In the case of grape plants, it offers protection from fungal and viral attacks and acts as a shield against the ravages of oxidative stress.

Numerous antioxidants have been discovered and they are credited as the elements that breathe color into plants (notably fruits and vegetables). This is why nutritionists and dieticians say that we should consume fruits and vegetables with dark or pronounced colors. Relief for symptoms of Alzheimer's disease and delaying of the deterioration process associated with this disease. This particular benefit is still under considerable study so no conclusive evidence is available, although some researchers who have studied resveratrol for a long time are convinced of its capability to help ward off the damaging effects of Alzheimer's;
Prevention of the common cold or influenza. Again, more studies are required to establish this benefit for humans. It has however been proven on rats and their cells.
