Description
"Cat's Claw is a tropical vine that grows in the rainforests of South America and Asia. Cat's Claw has been known by some cultures as the 'Sacred Herb of the Rain Forest'. Cat's Claw gets its name from the small thorns at the base of the leaves, which looks like a Cat's Claw. Although recently, scientific research has begun to discover Cat's Claw and its many medicinal uses, the indigenous peoples of the South American rain forest have used it for hundreds of years.
The active constituent in Cat's Claw are alkaloids, tannins and several other phytochemicals. Many of the alkaloids have been shown to boost the immune system. The main alkaloid, rhynchophylline, has anti-hypertensive effects and may possibly decrease the possibility of stroke and heart attack by lowering blood pressure, increasing circulation, reducing heart rate and controlling cholesterol. Some current studies reveal that it may have a positive benefit on the body's immune system.
The Asháninka Indian tribe in central Peru has the longest recorded history of use of the plant. Since the early 1990's, Cat's Claw has been used in Europe as an adjunctive treatment for cancer and AIDS.
