Our Bodies Are Meant to Move |

Regular Movement
One of the most important aspects of maintaining whole health is regularly moving your body. In
today's modern world, which has allowed for many conveniences, we have become much more
sedentary than in the past. If you don't work in a job where you are physically active, than it is possible
that you are not getting enough exercise. The word exercise may have negative connotations for some
people, but I am not talking about forcing yourself to torture yourself with activities that do not fulfill
you. I am talking about being fully alive in every way, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
Moving your body is part of a balanced, fulfilling lifestyle and can have numerous benefits in all areas of
your life.
Choosing an Activity to Get Started
The key here is moving your body. It doesn't have to be at a gym, or doing an activity that you don't
enjoy. If you resonate with the gym, that's great. If not, there are many other ways to move your body.
And you can choose an activity that suits your needs. For example, if you are overwhelmed with stress
and anxiety, then maybe gentle yoga would be good for you. If you are feeling hyper-sensitive, or in
need of empowerment, you could try taking martial arts. Being in the great outdoors is a wonderful
way to exercise, because nature can be very calming for the mind, as well as invigorating. Hiking, biking,
swimming, gardening, or any number of outdoor activities may not even feel like exercise, but can
provide all of the benefits.
Taking the First Step
Exercise is great because it can balance the body's biochemistry and metabolism. It can calm and clarify
the mind. It can be a constructive outlet for excess energy or emotions. It lifts the spirits, and can give
you an overall feeling of well-being. The benefits of moving the body are too numerous to mention.
So why is it that many people are in need of more exercise? One simple reason is inertia. An object at
rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion, unless acted upon by a force. To start moving
your body requires some additional exertion to overcome the resistance that many people feel. Once a
regular exercise routine is established, and a person is feeling good, it is easier to continue. That's not
to say that you will never experience resistance again, but once the ball is rolling, it's easier to keep it
moving.
Set Yourself Up To Succeed
So how does one overcome resistance to start moving the body? There are many factors that can affect
one's energy levels and motivation to exercise. One is sleep. Adequate sleep is essential to a balanced
and healthy lifestyle, and can support a person in maintaining an exercise routine. Another is diet. If a
person is lacking certain nutrients and is experiencing deficiency, it could affect one's energy levels and
feeling of wellbeing, which could hinder one's ability to exercise. In addition to a wholesome diet one
way to ensure that you cover all of your nutritional bases is through supplementation. Taking a daily
multivitamin, or supplementing with a superfoods greens powder, may help combat deficiencies in the
body. Another way to jump-start an exercise routine is to connect with people. Take a group fitness
class, find a workout buddy, or at least make your commitment to exercise known to a loved one who
will hold you accountable. It is through our connections with people that we grow, and exercising is no
different.
Any Activity is Better Than None
Basically the key is to move your body, in any way that you can. Find an activity that is enjoyable to
you, start a new hobby, join a club, or do anything that gets you moving. We need to break free of our
comfort zones in order to attain new levels of achievement and fulfillment. We need to break free
of our limiting behaviors and beliefs. And the wonderful thing is, as we begin our journey to become
physically fit, it will support us in our other endeavors as well. So make a decision right now to try
something new, take action, and follow through. Whatever it is that you desire, realize that moving
your body is an integral part of having a healthy, fulfilling, and joyful life.
