Fundamental Enzymes

Natural Digestive Enzymes

Fundamental Enzymes is a natural digestive enzyme supplement containing 8 active digestive enzymes.

Holistic health and well-being is largely attributed to proper digestion in the body. Healthy digestion leads to proper absorption of nutrients and elimination wastes in our system.

When digestion is interfered with, the full nutritional value of food does not enter the bloodstream. Half digested food molecules can end up absorbed into the systems circulation, which leads to a host of nutritional disorders including food intolerance. Other nutritional deficiencies may be had with poor protein, fat, and carbohydrate digestion.

Fundamental Enzymes - Benefits of Digestive Enzymes

Fundamental Enzymes is a vegetarian enzyme supplement designed to improve nutrient absorption and digestive tract function. This multiple enzyme formula is digestion's answer, promoting digestive activity for a dazzling array of proteins found in the intestinal tract. The highly effective digestive enzyme Dipeptidyl Peptidase IV, known for its breakdown power over protein peptides from dairy and cereal products (gliadomorphin, gluteomorphin, exophins, and casomorphin) is also in the formula.

All in all, Fundamental Enzymes is a champion at breaking down plant, animal, and casein/gluten based peptides. Ideal candidates to take Fundamental Enzymes are vegetarians, digestive enzyme-deficient individuals, and elderly people.

Benefits of Peptidase? Scientific Explanation

Fundamental Enzymes consists of peptidase, which contains high levels of Dipeptidyl Peptidase IV helping to reduce inflammation occurring due to the gluten peptide, which improves digestion and facilitates consumption of foods containing gluten. Secondly, allergenic proteins from wheat, rye, and barley are better broken down. It works just as well with casein from dairy products.

Peptidase allows for full absorption of proteins because they are totally broken down into easily digested components. This has the effect of increasing the intake of nutrition in the body and justifying the price tag of every meal. DPP-IV is a key ingredient in breaking down gluten and casein, two dietary proteins containing proline.

Peptidase with DPP-IV is one of the most effective proteolytic enzymes and allow for hydrolysis of the protein. Most other proteolytic enzymes are not as perform complete breakdown of protein. This helps combat allergenic proteins from affecting the body. These allergenic proteins are responsible for several food reactions, including the onslaught of celiac disease, a disease of the intestine.

Both toxic and immunogenic amino acid sequences of glidin have proline. In addition, prolyl peptides have exorphin qualities that may worsen neurological conditions such as autism in children. Studies have proven that intestinal DPP-IV activity in people with celiac disease is very low. Along the same line, autistic individuals produce antibodies that slow down the production of DPP-IV. Thus, DPP-IV with your diet has proven to be a player in lowering levels of pathogenic prolyl peptides in the intestinal system.

Advocating for the use of DPP-IV- more science

In vitro, DPP-IV assists in breaking down the gliadin, an allergenic protein found in gluten. DPP-IV has also demonstrated its power by boosting gluten and casein disintegration. DPP-IV consumption has not been extensively researched, although past clinical studies concentrated on looking into the effects of a multi-enzyme preparation backed by DPP-IV movement in several children and teenagers with autism. In this clinical study, subjects were fed 12 weeks worth of the enzyme blend. After 12 weeks, subjects reported improved results in comprehension, socialization, speech, better sleep, and better mood. Studies have shown that DPP-IV is an effective component in managing the neurobehavioral and digestive symptoms brought upon by casein, gluten, and other neuro-active dietary proteins known for its negative side effects.

Benefits of Protease

Protease is an effectively dissolves protein (just as long as they are not derived from living cells). Protease enzymes digest proteins by first attaching itself to dead organisms. This digestive enzyme is a champion at breaking down protein and boosting energy levels. In addition, protease works to recover damaged and oxidized proteins, flushes out blood toxins, regulates the immune system, restores hormonal balance, repairs both wounds and tissues, and neutralizes heavy metals and wipes out its toxins.

Benefits of Bromelain

Bromelain is a powerful digestive enzyme derived from the pineapple's stem and fruit, bromelain is an anti-inflammatory agent, working to reduce inflammation as well as expedite wound and bruise recovery. It is also a powerful protein splitter. Studies have also shown favorable results battling cancer and cardiovascular disease.

Bromelain has received plenty of praise for its curing properties for pain and swelling due to various trauma related conditions, including infections, surgery, and sports injuries. Studies have shown that bromelain expedites the body's recovery process by disengaging the accumulation of fibrin and inflammation caused by leukotrienes. The medical community also state that bromelain assists in relieving indigestion symptoms (think upset stomach and heartburn). In addition, it works as a standalone supplement or can be mixed with other enzymes to help break down fats and carbs. This is especially useful when the body's natural production of pancreatic enzymes is reduced.

Bromelain also has natural anti-inflammatory properties. Long considered a folk remedy by scientists who initially questioned their effect (due to the notion proteins and other enzymes were unable to be absorbed from the digestive tract), studies have proven otherwise. Bromelain is easily absorbed and is effective in plasma. In addition to its anti inflammatory effects, Bromelain curbs the collection of platelets, which helps to parry the onset of heart disease brought upon by plaque buildup that is one of the primary causes of heart attacks. Its effectiveness against angine and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is well documented, both as a standalone treatment or complemented with other therapies. On the other hand, increase doses of bromelain speed up heart rate and magnify the effects of prescription blood thinners used to monitor heart disease. Those with cardiovascular conditions should consult with a doctor prior to taking bromelain.

Benefits of Papain

Papain is a proteolytic enzyme taken from the Caroica papaya in its unripe form (also known as simply papaya). These digestive enzymes help split proteins and comes from the papaya and several other plant species. Living organisms produce this enzyme, a collection of molecules from living organisms that expedite the chemical reaction process within cells. Papaya has been a proven medicinal herb, tracing back to the 1700s. Towards the end of the 19th century, the scientific community recognized papaya as an excellent source of enzymes.

Without question the most recognized enzyme produced by the papaya, papain is a medicinal powerhouse used in medical settings as a wound healer, particularly with insect stings, and has also been used to remedy many digestive problems

Papain is excellent at calming the stomach and assists with the digestion of protein. It primarily serves two roles: to help with digestion and to combat against inflammation. Taken in low amounts, the papain digestive enzyme is an effective digestive aid and works well with people who have burning feeling in the upper abdomen (dyspeptic disorder, which is caused by bad digestion)

Lesson in Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates are a source of instant energy to the body. Carbohydrates found in plants (grains) are referred to as starch. Two sources of starch are fruits and vegetables. Most foods have tiny amounts of carbohydrates, though carbohydrates mostly come from sugars and starches.

Sugars, simple sugars, double sugars, and starches. What's the difference?

Sugars refer to honey, molasses, maple sugar, and grainy sugars. Simple sugars consist of fruit sugar and fructose. Double sugars are most represented by ripe fruits and vegetables, along with maltose, lactose, sugar cane, and sugar beet. Lastly, starches are common in staples such as wheat, potatoes, and rice.

Benefits of Amylase

Amylase is an enzyme that works to break down sugar and starch. Amylase breaks down carbohydrates into smaller disaccharides, which convert to glucose and other monosaccharides. Fat intolerant individuals usually consume sugar and carbohydrates to make up for fat deficiency in their diets. A carbohydrate heavy diet could create an amylase deficiency.

In addition to carbohydrates, amylase helps digest dead white blood cells (also referred to as pus). Amylase-deficient individuals could cause abscesses (sans bacteria) One test for abscesses is an immunity to antibiotics (toothaches are often treated with antibiotics; continued pain may be due to an abscess.)

Amylase is active in anti-inflammatory reactions. Amylase usually works against inflammation caused by histamine release. These inflammatory responses are triggered by organs that are exposed to our natural environment, such as our skin and lungs.

Benefits of Lactase

Lactase is a digestive enzyme produced in the small intestine. It is a player in digesting lactose, the principal sugar found in milk. Ever hear the phrase lactose intolerant? This term refers to those individuals who do not produce enough lactase, which creates a resistance to digesting milk. This causes upset stomach, diarrhea, and gas.

Doctors can diagnose lactose intolerance; however, a quick home check could weed out this condition. On an empty stomach, consume two glasses of milk and watch for gastrointestinal upset over the next few hours. Repeat this check with cheese the next day. Should your stomach churn from consuming milk, you are most likely lactose intolerant. An adverse reaction to both milk and cheese is indicative of an allergy to dairy products, not lactose intolerance.

What is Lipase?

Lipase is a fat breakdown specialist, a powerful dietary enzyme known for its digestive properties. It is created in the pancreas, in addition to insulin (the hormone that regulates glucose) and glucagons. This group helps to metabolize sugar in the blood. Lipase is also created in the stomach (known as gastric lipase)

Benefits of Lipase

Digesting fat and breaking down sugar are not lipase's only strengths. Lipase also helps to digest important nutrients in the intestines and helps to move free fatty acids and come up with the energy loaded calories that are used up by the body every day.

Under normal circumstances, most health people don't require lipase. However, many have a lipase deficiency (within this group, those suffering from celiac disease, Crohn's disease, and cystic fibrosis apply).

High cholesterol, increased triglyceride levels, and an increase in cardiovascular diseases and diabetes are also the results of lipase deficiency. Thus, lipase supplements are especially designed to treat these conditions.

Lipase supplements have long been proven to treat people with lipase deficiency. For example, those with celiac disease (a disease caused by high gluten levels that break the intestines) can benefit from lipase enzyme supplements, especially if combined with a gluten free diet. Lipase supplements can also assist with irritable bowel syndrome, bloating, and constipation, along with the more serious cystic fibrosis, a condition where heavy mucus prevents digestive enzymes from working in the intestinal tract. Nutrient rich diets and lipase enzyme supplements could reverse these effects.

Lipase = Weight Loss?

Faster metabolisms play a key role in promoting health weight loss. Lipase deficient and high carbohydrate consuming individuals are candidates for obesity who could benefit from lipase enzymes, since it acts as a fat molecule splitter. In addition to breaking down fat, lipase moderates digestion and keeps you at your natural body weight. Not taking a digestive enzyme supplement containing lipase could spiral cholesterol levels out of control and promote obesity related diseases. A natural digestive enzyme supplement with the lipase enzyme may not assist with promoting weight loss directly, but it directly hits many anti-weight loss activities such as a slow metabolism and irregular digestive conditions.

Why Hemicellulase?

Hemicellulase is a group of digestive enzymes responsible for decomposing (by reacting with water) the hard-to-digest properties of plant fibers. Digesting plant fibers is one of the human body's weaknesses (lack of enzymes are produced), so hemicellulase supplementation is used as a result.

The fattening effect of fibrous foods is reduced by this digestive enzyme's ability to cut through fibrous plants and their hard cell walls, which allows more nutrients to enter the bloodstream. Studies have shown that a digestive enzyme such as hemicellulase paves the way for nutritional strength and digestive aid.

Possible Side Effects of Digestive Enzymes

Bromelain can cause adverse reactions with antibiotics and blood thinners. One study showed that bromelain assists in increasing the level of antibiotics in the blood stream (a telling move the digestive enzyme can improve medication absorption); though the study is uncertain. Those allergic to carrots, celery, beers, latex, flour, tree/gas pollen, and pineapples should not take bromelain; the combination of which could cause allergies and heighten the effects of asthma. Lastly, bromelain is not recommended for those suffering from bleeding disorders or taking blood thinning medicine. A hemorrhage could result. Other groups to avoid using bromelain are young kids and pregnant women until studies prove otherwise.

Papain should be managed in smaller doses. It is best to consult a doctor before consuming any herbs or supplements alongside this digestive enzyme. Overdosing on papain enzyme supplements has possible side effects, including chest tightening, swelling of the tongue, throat, and lips, itching, difficulty breathing, hives, and itching. Should any of these symptoms occur, it is best to consult a doctor. Many people can show adverse reactions to enzymes, which is why it is important to consult a doctor before taking any. It is encouraged not to take papain enzyme during pregnancy or if you have a bleeding condition.

Good blend of enzymes October 22, 2010
Reviewer: T. B. from California
I used to buy supplements that were specifically bromelain, or amylase, etc. Some of the digestive enzymes I used to buy had a few blends, like 2 or 3, but Fundamental Enzymes has 8 different enzymes. I stopped taking 3 other enzyme supplements and only take this one now.
