Dee Cee Labs formulation of Injuv is a proprietary formula of Hyaluronic Acid with Rooster Comb Extract and plays an important role in tissue hydration, lubrication and cellular function.
What is Hyaluronic Acid?
Hyaluronic acid is found in the spaces surrounding our cells, with the highest concentrations found in soft connective tissue, such as skin and cartilage. Hyaluronic acid is a major constituent of joint tissue and contributes to the hydration of cartilage, which is essential for its flexibility and elastic strength.
Hyaluronic acid is able to hold more water than any substance found in nature. Due to its unparalleled hydrating properties, Injuv may result in increased skin smoothness, softening and decreased wrinkles. It is important to supplement with hyaluronic acid due to decreased synthesis of hyaluronic acid due to aging.
Hyaluronic acid in our joints is a long and intricate molecule that makes a ball shape which resists compression.
Hyaluronic Acid Research
With inflammation, the hyaluronic acid molecule breaks down to smaller particles and is not effective in keeping a ball shape.
Hyaluronic acid as found in Injuv supports healthy skin function as revealed in a study published in the Journal of Cellular Physiology in 1998. It was shown to help propagate healthy skin cells in a collagen matrix. Hyaluronic acid, also known as HA, enhances skin hydration and can function as a lubricant between the collagen matrix of the skin. Since hyaluronic acid is a component of the skin and it declines with age, proper supplementation can assure sufficient levels stay in the skin to enhance its proper function.
A double blind, randomized, multi-center, parallel group study of the effectiveness and tolerance of intra-articular hyaluronan in osteoarthritis of the knee.
J Rheumatol. 2004 Apr;31(4):775-82.
To investigate the efficacy and tolerability of a course of 5 injections of hyaluronan ( HA or hyaluronic acid ) given at intervals of one week in patients with symptomatic, mild to moderate osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee. METHODS: A double blind, randomized, parallel group, multi-center (17 centers), saline vehicle-controlled study was conducted over 18 weeks. Patients received either 25 mg (2.5 ml) hyaluronic acid in a phosphate buffered solution or 2.5 ml vehicle containing only the buffer by intra-articular injection. Five injections were given at one week intervals and the patients were followed for a further 13 weeks. RESULTS: Of 240 patients randomized for inclusion in the study, 223 were able to be evaluated for the modified intention to treat analysis. The hyaluronic acid treatment and control groups were comparable for demographic details, OA history, and previous treatments. Scores for the pain and stiffness were modestly but significantly lower in the hyaluronic acid -treated group overall and the statistically significant difference from the control was not apparent until after the series of injections was complete. The physical function subscale did not reach statistical significance. Tolerability of the procedure was good and there were no serious adverse events that were considered to have a possible causal relationship with hyaluronic acid.
CONCLUSION: Intra-articular hyaluronic acid treatment was significantly more effective than saline vehicle in mild to moderate OA of the knee for the 13 week post injection period of the study.
