Earth Mama Angel Baby FAQ

Q: When you say "all our products are organic", does this mean they are truly all organic?

A: Good question. This has been raised by many of our customers because of recent controversy over what is natural versus what is organic. Earth Mama teas are made of organic herbs - and they're 100% certified organic.

There is a difference: 100% organic means just that. But when you read Made with Organic Ingredients, that statement actually means the product has over 70% organic ingredients. Whenever possible, only organic ingredients go into each of our products, but there are times when certain organics are not available or have not yet been certified as organic.

Q: Can you define "organic" then?

A: A product is called "organic" when it is grown based on adherence to environmental principles. This means the cultivating, harvesting and packaging were carried out using methods that do not harm the earth, soil, farmer or agriculturist, and the product end-user. That means you, the consumer.

Rigorous standards govern organic farms. One of these standards is the non-use of pesticides or chemicals in any form.

Q: If you sell organic products, then why aren't all of your ingredients 100% organic?

A: The reason is simple: not all ingredients can be obtained in their pure organic form, or else they have not yet been certified as organic. One example is Vitamin E oil. Some of the herbs we use grow in free-roaming areas - also known as growing "in the wild." Hence they are not cultivated. But when they are harvested, methods that don't harm the plant population are employed.

Earth Mama Angel Baby is a member of United Plant Savers. We exert all-out effort to make sure that these herbs continue to grow freely, in the wild. This is why we label these herbs as "wild harvested."

Q: Do some of your products contain lanolin, SLS, parabens or other artificial substances/preservatives?

A: Not one of our products contains any of those substances. We have not, and will not, manufacture our products with those substances.

Q: I've read some reports about the dangers in using some personal care products. Is there reason for consumers to worry about yours?

A: Yes, we too have heard the arguments for and against the manufacture and use of personal care and hygiene products. Earth Mama provides total assurance that there is absolutely nothing to worry about regarding our products, either for adults or for babies. Our company has conducted thorough and exhaustive research on this particular issue. We have created a Reading Room where all of our customers can learn more about harmful substances like sodium lauryl sulfate and other chemicals.

Q: Out of curiosity, if you say you don't use any artificial or synthetic preservatives, how do you maintain the integrity of your products in terms of bacteria and mold proliferation?

A: You may be aware that it is possible to preserve ingredient integrity using other means. At Earth Mama, we use tight-seal amber jars that are UV coated, so that the herbal ingredients do not in any way get degraded. These jars help the leaves and roots of the herbs thrive by not exposing them to excessive light and fluctuating temperatures.

As for our oil-based products, we ensure that all water is eliminated so that the use of preservatives is avoided. Instead, we have incorporated the use of antioxidants like natural Vitamin E so that the oils and other healthy by-products from the herbs are not oxidized.

Earth Mama's lotions are for the hands, knees and elbows and they are properly maintained by combining oils and water in healthy balanced proportions. Since these lotions are entirely natural and organic, they have the potential to attract bacteria and mold. Mama solves this problem by formulating a total preserving system with organic alcohol extract. This extract is characterized for its healing and moisturizing properties of organic herbs. Our customers enjoy the benefits of this method which is considered safe for human consumption.

Q: One of the products I bought from Earth Mama has expired. Should I stop using it?

A: To protect our customers, we always stamp a "Sell By" date on all products. Note that "Sell By" is NOT synonymous to "Expires On." We make it a point to retain samples from our product inventory that are over five years old and our tests show that they are still perfectly safe to use!

One effective way to prolong the life and effectiveness of your Mama products is to not expose them to direct heat or sunlight. Keep them in a cool dry place. Never put your Mama products in windows with sunlight exposure or in the trunk of your car. By taking these simple steps, your products will still be safe and good to use a year after the Sell By date.

Q: My baby has certain allergic reactions. Will Earth Mama Angel Baby products aggravate these allergies?

A: Only you as the mother can decide what is safe for your baby. To help you decide, please read our section on "Read My Ingredients." If you know your baby's specific allergy triggers - or allergens - you can find out if they are present in any of our products. Please don't hesitate to consult with your health care professional, naturopathic doctor or licensed herbalist about your concerns. It is especially important to consult them if you are pregnant or nursing your baby.

Q: I have since converted into a vegan diet. Are Earth Mama's products all vegan?

A: We are pleased to announce that all of our Mama products are certified vegan! We do not use any ingredients - lanolin or balms - that come from animals. We use based wax, not beeswax in our products.

Q: I've noticed some white spots in your Natural Nipple Butter and Angel Baby Bottom Balm? Are these spots an indication of something?

A: The white spots you see are shea butter. When shea butter is cold it tends to solidify. As you apply Natural Nipple Butter and Angel Baby Bottom Balm, it comes into contact with warm human skin and then melts. Natural ingredients "behave" differently in certain products, depending on the amount of herbs and essential oils they contain. This is a normal occurrence with natural ingredient products. There is no cause for worry.

Q: My baby uses cotton diapers. Can I still use Angel Baby Bottom Balm?

A: Most definitely! Many of our customers have given us very positive feedback about our product being 100% compatible with cotton diapers.

Q: Is it necessary to wipe off Natural Nipple Butter from my breasts before breastfeeding?

A: No need at all. Take a look at the ingredients!

Q: Why the cloudy appearance in my Angel Baby Shampoo and Body Wash?

A: When we ship our products, sometimes the weather is too cold. Our products tend to solidify when the temperature goes down. The fatty acids react to drops in temperature. This is easily solved by dipping or soaking your Angel Baby Shampoo and Body Wash bottles into a bowl or basin of warm water and that cloudy appearance will disappear. Don't let this cloudy look bother you because whether the shampoo is clear or cloudy, it still does its job well!

Q: I noticed you don't use glass jars. Why is that?

A: The use of plastic jars is a reflection of our respect for the earth and environment. This respect extends to our packaging approach as well. The Business Recycling Award Group (BRAG) has honoured us for our environmental and go-green practices. We don't sit on our laurels. We continue to look for ways to make our products more respectful of mother earth.

Based on studies we've done, the plastic PET bottles and jars are still the better alternatives to glass jars, not just for our company but also for our customers. We introduce color into our container to minimize exposure to UV rays. Also, PET containers are easily recycled and are manufactured at high safety standards.

In the past, all our products were packaged in glass containers, but an incident about a woman cutting herself when opening a jar of Natural Nipple Butter raised our antennas. The glass container broke during the delivery transit time.

Glass by its very nature, is fragile and sensitive, requiring extreme care and handling. Glass jars can tumble off shelves, night stands and bathroom counter tops. We would not want to expose our customers to potential risks so we shifted to the use of plastic for our diaper cream, nipple cream and baby oil.

Plastic is a much safer alternative to glass especially when the products are for babies and pregnant women. We eliminate the risk of injury, pure and simple.
